Signs of spring and baby birds are everywhere. Three new baby eagles are in the nest at Fort St. Vrain Station -- the eggs hatched from April 4 through 8. The box at Valmont Station is filling up as the two young owls continue to grow. Kestrels at Pawnee Station are sitting on five eggs as of April 5, look for them to hatch the first week of May. Belinda at the Allen S. King Plant laid her first egg on April 11. Watch for more to follow. Ospreys returned to the nest at the Allen S. King Plant, even though the St. Croix River was still frozen.
The open space, vegetation, and water surrounding our power plant sites makes them excellent homes for wildlife. We have installed web-based Bird Cams at several of our facilities to help raise awareness of these wild creatures and share them with the public. The Bird Cam news will get you caught up on the latest information from the nests.
